Hi there,
Welcome to everyone as competitors in the 9th annual Rydges Capricorn Half Ironman Triathlon.
We hope for you the race is a great day out; some serious competition mixed with some old fashioned camaraderie that can make our sport so much fun to compete in.
This newsletter covers off various aspects you need to remember to maximise your weekend away in Yeppoon and to ensure your race is as good as it can be!
We also cover some issues now that we sincerely hope will NOT surface come race weekend and race day!
HOUSEKEEPING:
MEMBERSHIP/LICENSES:
If you have entered this event then please note that a total license check is being made, in conjunction with Triathlon Australia, on all participants who have entered the event as TA members.
The 2007/2008 license year finished on June 30th 2008. If you have not renewed your membership or registered with TA as a member since the ability to do so was opening on June 1st you WILL need to renew membership before the date of registration, or pay the non-member fee at registration, before being able to race.
WE ARE AWARE THAT SOME PEOPLE HAVE ENTERED AS MEMBERS, BUT HAVE NOT QUOTED A LICENSE NUMBER, WHILST OTHERS HAVE, BUT THAT LICENSE IS NOT CURRENT, OR IN SOME CASES DOESN’T EXIST! However, a big thank you to those who have contacted us and updated their information.
If you have received an email questioning the details of your entry and have not responded at this time you will need to see Ali at Registration (see the “Please see Ali list” on the notice boards at registration!)
Whilst is not necessary to have a license to compete in this race, it is necessary to have completed the correct entry pertaining to your status. Our insurance premiums are high enough without allowing un-insured competitors onto the course!
NOTE: You will need to be a financial licensed member of TriQLD to compete for awards in the QLD State LD Championship.
AND if you are seeking selection to the Australian team to the World LD Championship in Perth next year, you need to be a financial Triathlon Australia member AND for your selection points to count towards selection, you need to be a TA member by midnight on the Thursday preceding the event in which you are competing – that’s midnight on Thursday 14th August for those competing in the Rydges Capricorn Half Ironman.
You can renew your membership or join a Triathlon Association right now and online - and remember to PRINT out your renewal or joining receipt to present at registration as your license will not arrive in time.
PLEASE NOTE: NO receipt means you will need to pay the one race permit regardless of your status - DO NOT LEAVE IT AT HOME!

IRONMAN VALIDATION:
Nothing to worry about - if you complete this event under 7h30m, you will be auto validated for Ironman Australia at Port Macquarie.
Results will be sent to the Ironman Australia office within hours of us checking and confirming them and Ken Baggs will be at the Capricorn Half to answer any queries you may have.
Further pertinent information about the validation system can be found at www.capricornhalf.com
CHEATING:
Please don't even think about competing in this event if you intend to cut the course, forget to count our laps; or cheat in any way (and that includes Drafting...)
We are telling you now that there will be a NO TOLERANCE policy in force on this and subsequent to our 2005-2007 races we will be vigilant in our approach, and we’ll be working with a senior crew of Technical officials to do so!
We will do what we can as organisers, (and we have timing mats on course, marshals and a senior non-officiating technical official making some special checks and recommendations on the day!)
The Technical Officials will certainly do what they can within the full force of the rules of Triathlon Australia and we ask you as competitors to call it as you see it.
What we can’t do is race your race; you and solely you are ultimately responsible for our own actions on course!
TECHNICAL:
Triathlon Queensland will be conducting some regional education and training workshops at Yeppoon – a Level 1 Technical Officials course – Saturday 16 August, Rydges, 9am-12noon
Email names of interested members & contact phone and email to admin@triathlonqld.com.au, this course is free and has no minimum or maximum numbers.
VOLUNTEERS:
Each year we enjoy a wonderful crew of volunteers at Yeppoon and if you'd like to join them simply sign on via the dedicated volunteer form in the web site at www.capricornhalf.com
We can use all we can get as the local area is not densely populated – but as you know as competitors, the more volunteers the merrier the day!
We are looking for additional volunteers this year and we'll make sure you have a great day out and you'll up close to the triathlon action also!
If you know someone who may be able to volunteer, please ask them to sign on via the website at www.capricornhalf.com – And we have VERY special lucky draws for the Volunteers also!!
A THANKS IN ADVANCE:
