GETTING YOUR BIKE TO YEPPOON & OTHER 'SPECIALS':

Last year we had some dramas in getting bikes to Yeppoon, and we've worked hard to alleviate this stress for you, the airlines and our ground handlers this year.

The bad news is that the same airlines are still flying the same small planes to Rockhampton, and that bad news is further amplified by the fact there are some 200 more bikes heading to Yeppoon this year - IF YOU INTEND TO FLY YOUR BIKE WITH YOU - YOU NEED TO CALL YOUR AIRLINE NOW AND ADVISE THEM!as we are unable to guess what mode of transport competitors and their bikes are using!

Note: Only Tiger, out of Melbourne, has 737s flying into Rockhampton with good luggage space. Virgin has Embrauer jets; they aren't big and they have little freight space. Qantas has prop jet Dash 8s (ditto for size!) If your flight goes via Brisbane you'll be on a small plane up to Rockhampton; if you are direct from Sydney the same applies.

This is now a paid service by the airlines; we will not get the level of service from 2008 if the numbers are over the limits this year and note that Friday is also the main air freight day to Rockhampton, hence the problem is now further acerbated.

The good news is that X-Tri has discovered “Velotrans” and we've their information on line, in various newsletters and now once again being sent directly to you.

Velotrans is a dedicated bike freight company for triathletes and cyclists run by triathletesand cyclists - who know how to handle and look after YOUR bike.

We highly recommend talking to Velotrans for your bikes safe conduct to Yeppoon, and you can talk to them and/or book directly for this and all future X-Tri races through www.velotrans.com.au

Can we also take this opportunity to introduce you to Velosure (no relation to Velotrans) for you bike insurance! We have negotiated some great rates with Velosure through their website from this link; or the link at www.capricornhalf.com .

If you need a hire car in Yeppoon, call Avis ahead of time and use the following code for super rates! AWDP185012

ACCOMMODATION UPDATE:

Still looking for accommodation? The good news is that Tri Travel has rooms at the Capricorn Resort – Yeppoon, and at the Melaleuca Motel (part of the resort)

The bests news is that despite some rooms selling out, there is a small quantity remaining , but going fast!

Ring 1 800 22 50 22 and talk to the specialists at Tri Travel or for local accommodation, go directly to www.capricorncoast.com.au, where all the CCTO accommodation members are listed with direct contact details etc.

TA/ASSOCIATION MEMBERSHIP:

Did you enter the Capricorn Resort Half Ironman as an association member?  If so and you have not yet renewed your association membership, you may face an ORM (One Race Membership) plus admin fee before being allowed to compete at the Capricorn Half.

NOTE: All state association memberships expired on June 30 and so you now need to renew membership before the date of registration OR pay an admin fee containing a one race membership fee and insurance benefits at registration before being allowed to race.

We will be checking with the STTAs, and TA on the status of all competitors and you will not be permitted to race unless licensed or having purchased the admin package containing the one day license.

Remember to print your e-Ticket, and bring your license of receipt of membership to registration - the e-ticket will also contain details of merchandise ordered.

DID WE SAY WE NEED VOLUNTEERS? YES WE DID!:

Each year a wonderful team of volunteers helps make the race at Yeppoon just as good as it gets!

We welcome everyone who isn’t competing to join our band of merry ‘vollies’ and enjoy a great day out close to the action. Some great “schwagg” and a barbie as well!  If you'd like to join the Volunteer Team simply sign on via the dedicated volunteer form in the web site at www.capricornhalf.com and check the FaceBook Capricorn Volunteer group set up by our hard working Volunteer Coordinator, Cindy Lee Hooker.  http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=197914200458
