CALLING ALL VOLUNTEERS:
Hello there,
A quick note from the entire race team to thank all of our volunteers who have already signed on for the very special 10th Anniversary Capricorn Resort Half Ironman to be conducted on August 16th, just one week away!
And we also wanted to catch up with those volunteers who have given of their time and been of valued assistance to this event since 2006 too.
We'd like to invite you all back - AND FEEL TO BRING A FRIEND OR TWO!
Why? well, the 10th Anniversary race will highlight the Capricorn Coast like never before with a record field drawn from all over Australia, New Zealand and five other countries!
This event that started with 100 athletes 10 years ago is now a 650 athlete field - and that's why we need more and more volunteers to run the aid stations for the ride and run, and the essential after race recovery station, assist in transition, even help sort out the trophies and set up the presentation, help with medical, and so it goes... there's a hundred little jobs that all make the athlete's 'job' on the day so much easier as they swim 1.9kms, bike 90kms and run a half Marathon!!
To make it easy we've created a sign on page at
www.capricornhalf.com and from the home page there just go to the
Volunteer heading. There we have most jobs outlined and you can sign on and nominate your preferred task on the day. All you have to do then is turn up!
ALL tasks get you very close to the action and this can be a great day out as the competitors will feed on your energy and give back as well... in fact the biggest cheer post race will be the thanks shown by the competitors for those who 'make their day!'.
And to further recognise the work of the volunteers, we've got a few surprises in this our 10th anniversary year too!
There's a volunteer kit for every volunteer that will include:
- A bag
- Energy Bars
- Drinks
- A very unique hat
- A unique 10th Anniversary tee shirt
- and some great product samples...
Plus there's food and drinks for all volunteers!
There will also be a lucky draw for volunteers and one volunteer will
win a night at the Capricorn Resort - Yeppoon, and there's other prizes as well for those drawn out after the race.... we will also be inviting two volunteers to join us at the Oficial 10th Anniversary Presentation Dinner from 6:30pm on Race Day!
The centre of Volunteer action Sunday is the Tropical Ford Volunteer centre, to be based on the Resort lawns, just outside the Tropic of Capuccino Coffee Shop in the main resort building.
This will be the main sign on centre for the day on Sunday (and note that for those who can assist Saturday the sign on centre is Anniversary House). For those of you who are signed on, or will sign on, our Volunteer COordinator, Cindy, will contact you with fine tuning on meeting points and timing for race day.
At the Tropical Ford tent we'll also be running an all day bar bq, and whilst those in the field will have food and drink packs as well they are welcome to come back to the BarBQ after their 'shift' and relax with drinks and a feed with our thanks!
To make the race more volunteer friendly, we've also changed location of some of the aid stations so the 'back' run station is now on the bitumen road before the runners turn into the bush...
We can also promise you'll be well looked after, as our Volunteer Crew is now very experienced is making the day as good for you as you make it for the competitors.
We hope to see as many of you as possible on the 15th and 16th of August... remember it's great if you can bring a friend too - so just ask them to sign on and we can keep you together as a group to make the day even better - if you belong to a school or a community group and you'd like to run an aid station (we supply all the gear and training - we just need bodies) then feel free to bring dress ups, banners, crazy hats and make your aid station the best on course too!)
All the best and if we don't see you next week we still thank you for the time given in the past
Many thanks to you all
Nick Munting
